The path to reach this temple is located in Gonde village of Pratapgarh, 170 km from the capital of Uttar Pradesh. This temple is approximately 900 years old. Aurangzeb broke the heads of the statues of Ashtabhuja Dham temple. These top fragmented sculptures are preserved in the same condition in this temple even today.

According to the historian, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb had ordered the demolition of Hindu temples in 1699 AD. At that time, the priest of the temple had saved the temple by building its main gate in the shape of a mosque, due to which the temple was saved from demolition.

When the Mughal army had almost completely passed in front of this temple, a general noticed the bell in the temple. Then, on the orders of the commander, the soldiers cut off the heads of all the idols installed in the temple. Even today the sculptures of this temple are seen in the same condition. This temple was built by the king of Somavanshi Kshatriya clan. The carvings on the gate of the temple are very similar to the famous Khajuraho temple of Madhya Pradesh.

There is a statue with eight hands in this temple, which is called the statue of Ashtabhuja Devi. Residents of the village say that earlier there was an ancient idol of Ashtabhuja Devi made of Ashtadhatu in this temple. 15 years ago that idol was stolen. After this, with the cooperation of the villagers, a stone statue of Ashtabhuja Devi was installed here.

Something is written on the main gate of this temple in a special language. Many archaeologists and historians have failed to understand which language this is because no one has been able to understand this language till now. Some historians call it Brahmi script and some consider it to be an even older language. But till now no one has been able to understand whatever is written on this gate and no one knows what is written till now.
